PLEASE HELPFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 21 Feb 2001 20:33:31 -0600 (CST)
I went to an edocrinologist very recently because I am having trouble with my thyroid. Apparently, I have an overactive thyroid. Before doing any tests, this doctor told me that he is almost certain that I also have PCOS. I had never heard of this before. Can he diagnosis this by looking at me?? Basically all he told me was that I would have to avoid certain foods because of weight gain. I need information. From what I am reading, I do have a few of the symptoms. I have had an overactive thyroid yet have not lost any weight. The specialist says this is because of the PCOS. I also have a problem with hair on my upper lip and under my chin. I do not have a problem with irregular periods. I was on the pill for about five years and only in the last six months have come off. My periods are very regular although heavy. My husband and I have not yet tried to have a baby. Can you have PCOS and have regular periods? Does it always mean infertility? What kind of foods should I eat? Low fat and low carb? Please someone help me. The doctor has not given me any eating guidelines except for a 30 gram a day fat limit. Also, he passed over the infertility like it was nothing. Please help...
