Hi,

i fully support 'alternative therapy' and have been having reflexology for 3.5 months once a week - once a fortnight. I have found the benefits of it almost immediately. I was very stressed about ttc and had raised prolactin. Within a month of relexology, my levels went down to normal. Also my periods that were very prolonged, heavy, clotty and irregular have become lighter and my cycles have become shorter between each one. Okay they are not every 28 days and each month have a slight variety in length BUT they are not as bad as they used to be. The 'holistic' values is so important to me and it gives me that ample time to relax! I am a qualifed Massage therapist, Reflexologist and Aromatherapist myself along with being a Registered Nurse, so i have strong beliefs of this approach to treatment and foresee the benefits it can have in many patients.

I hope that within time, my menstrual cycles will even out abit more and stimulate ovulation. Ironically i read in one altenative health magazine that a women with PCOS and had been ttc for years, when she had a break from fertility treatment, she resorted to reflexology and within months her periods that were normally absent, became present and she eventually had monthly cycles and concieved within months!!!!

I am waiting for homeopathic treatment soon to treat the pcos and assist with regulating my cycles as well.

I think my specialist thought i was 'mad' to have complementary therapies and probably thought, 'well try it if it makes you feel happier'. I am not saying that orthodox practices are rubbish, on the contrary but personally for me the 'holistic aspect can be equally important in how our body systems can be balanced out and as it stipulates it is 'complementary' so in some instances can be complementary alongside the orthodox forms of treatment.

I have heard great reports about accupuncture. I would of considered that, but as i don't like needles, i opted for another form of therapy.

With regard to dairy products, it can effect the hormonal balances in some ways. Also some people may have a sensitivity or food intolerance to specific foods like dairy products as well as others, which in turn i have heard can effect the enzyme productions and absorption, which can possibly effect in women, their cycles and ttc along with the bodies own production of hormones.

I have reduced my dairy intake primarily as i feel sluggish and tired if i consume high quantities.

So, yes if anyone has the opportunity and can finacially afford such treatment, then go for it. I know some General practices have doctors or nurses qualified in certain 'alternative therapies' as well and i think it is becoming vastly recognised as being beneficial. And of course the other positives are apart from increasing a good sense of well being, is that there are minimal side effects.

The most important factor if anyone should seek out such therapies is that a)they are comfortable with the treatment they have opted for, b)they have an open mind, c)they ensure their practitioner is qualified and registered with a regulating body.

Good luck!!!!
