Re: Hideous, horrible, evil ob/gyn!From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 16 Feb 2001 03:43:34 -0600 (CST)
Dear Sonnett, i am appalled that your Doctor treated you in such a disrespectable way. Personally as it has been mentioned before, i would write a letter of complaint to the chief exceutive of the Hospital, clinic etc describing and explaining your bad experience and discusting treatment/or lack of treatment. Patients have rights and one is certainly to have appropriate treatment, professional consultations and respect and dignity. The fact that your Doctor demonstrated only unprofessionalism goes against the code of practice and code of conduct she has to abide to!!!! Okay it can be true for some women that being extremely obese could have detrimental consequences if they should become pregnant or TTC. BUT each individual is different and there ARE other alternatives to manage this without having to result to a Gastric Bypass!!! It certainly does not mean that obese women should not become pregnant or can't get pregnant and anyway there are those women that are not obese but could still have intrinsic physical factors that could effect their inability to concieve or have difficult pregnancies. Overall regardless of shape and size, MANY women get pregnant and have babies with or without assistance effectively! If your Doctor had been efficient enough to scan through your medical notes, she would of noted that you are currently having treatment and/or having other Doctors managing your case. Thus she could of then of reviewed and decided a specific treatment that SHE could work on with you which could be complementary to the other concurrent treatment you are having with the other Docs. If she was forward thinking and taken in consideration ALL factors of your health and treatment, an appropriate management and treatment plan for you could of been made. Instead she dismissed this as such because she was too narrow minded and prejudiced, it seems to the 'larger' woman. You are not irresponsible of TTC because of your weight. Its a natural fullfillment in life and anyway like you have eluded to, you are trying to manage this or certainly your other docs are trying to manage and develop a treatment plan for you. You should not have been made to leave that appointment in tears and the only reason you did so was because of the 'bad practices' and inconsideration of that Doctor. Again it is hideous that she even suggested your only alternative was a bypass!!! You don't have to have that to become pregnant by all means. A suggestion is that you get a referral and seek another Doctor out. Don't think that there is no other resort than a bypass, its not and believe me there are MANY good caring Doctors out there that CAN and are better effiecient, compassionate and effective!!!! ALso don;t let one persons rude remarks make you feel bad about yourself. The only person who is ugly out of this is that Doctor!!! Take care, good luck!
