Hi Michele and other list members!

I was having a lurk at this site, and I thought I might share my story with you because it's one with a happy ending! :)

Like most of you, I have encountered my share of horrible, insensitive doctors and gynocologists who were unable to see past my weight when considering the gynocological problems that I was having. I was, however, finally diagnosed with endometriosis and told (at the age of 20) to go and have a baby to sort it out! Several years later I really was ready to try and have a baby, but after a year of trying was getting nowhere. So I went to a highly recommended doctor who diagnosed PCOS without having to do any invasive tests, and who put me on Clomid. After a few short months my daughter Louise was conceived, and now she's 4 years old. Shortly after Louise was born, I experienced a really horribly heavy bleed, so I went to another doctor (my good doctor having left his practice.) Again, he told me my problems were due solely to my weight - after doing a laparoscopy which showed only a few ovarian cysts (of course, I'd just had my baby so they were a lot better. What a stupid man!) So I changed doctors again, who re-diagnosed PCOS. I reconceived using Clomid, but unfortunately lost this baby at 12 weeks. A year later, I tried again with Clomid, and this time conceived my daughter Catherine, who is now 7 months old. Since Catherine was born, I have been seeing a dietician who specialises in PCOS. I have been following a healthy diet (no limits on carbs, just minding my fat intake) and, while I have been breastfeeding, have lost about 12 kilos. The upshot of this is, while some PCOS women are breastfeeding, their metabolisms are pretty much normal, so it's easy to lose weight. So that's it, really. 2 daughters and a weight solution. My advice to new members is pretty much the same as others...if a doctor is rude or stupid, get rid of him or her! Babies are possible - you just have to keep trying and be prepared to ride the rollercoaster of happiness and disappointment. Good luck to you all, Isobel

My last u/s showed crappy eggs - so the MD suggested next time (if I am not pregnant this time) - to try met and 100 mg of clomid. I hate clomid - and I hate how it makes me feel - and wonder if we could just skip it and go to something else. What is the something else?? What have other people done - or is this just the next way to go. I told him I hate clomid and the side effects - and he said he would take the dosage down - but maybe I just shot myself in the foot. Maybe I should be on 200 again in combination with the Met. I asked him - as I was concerned about the high dosage - and the PDR says not to go as high as 200. Have other people gone this high?? I hate all this "what if" stuff. ARRRRRRRGH!!! It alone is enough to drive me crazy!!

>Also - what weight loss programs have been effective for you? I know it differs between each person - but is everyone basically using the low carb idea?? Are you going as strict as the Atkins one?? That seems rather harsh - and to me it does not seem that it would be a great idea for people trying to conceive. My MD did not say I needed to lose weight - but I have put on about 30 lbs since I went off the pill about a year ago! YIKES!!!!!
