Re: Please, can anyone help me?From: Sally (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 11 Feb 2001 16:21:38 -0600 (CST)
My gynae says he will put me on Metformin but I don't know if he means only if the tests this time show PCOS. I am posting here from the UK. I have waited two and a half years to get anywhere near a diagnosis and now I am really scared I won't get one. The endocrinologists I saw here humiliated me, then had to admit that they had made mistake - I was hypothyroid. But they didn't look for anything else and so it has been such a slow process. i take Thyroxine now so that problem is coped with. What should I do? Please help. Katie, Hypothyroidism causes several similar problems to PCOS because they are both endocrine disorders. My sister has hypothyroidism and I have PCOS. I was diagnosed in the UK last year (I lived in Scotland). My gyne there thought I was crazy when I asked about Metformin and basically said I had PCOS and if I had trouble getting pregnant some day to come back and go on fertility treatments. I moved to the States and my GP put me on Metformin...within 2 weeks I had a period and have had one every month since!!! First of all, I just want to let you know that my sister with the thyroid problems has had the same issues that I have had although didn't have the period problems. She also had gestational diabetes with both of her pregnancies. I hope that you can find some help, at least you have a gyne willing to help!!! Best of luck to you!
