avandia

I wanted to add my two cents worth to the posts about avandia. I took avandia for almost one year. I was also doing clomid and gonal-f the entire time except for breaks so I do not know if it would have regulated my periods. I noticed after about 5 mths of taking it that I would experience heart palpations especially with the clomid. In Dec my knees were killing me, my mom noticed that my legs looked huge. I felt miserable. I could no longer wear my shoes, rings and had gained alot of weight. I am a lean PCOer went from 115 to 140. Anyway, my knees hurt standing, sitting and lying down. Then my heart started, I had to sleep elevated on pillows and breathing became difficult. I stopped taking avanida on Jan 4th. In two days the swelling went down, my heart stopped racing, but I continued to have a pinching pain in my heart. I went to dr for ekg, and x-rays, they sent my to hospital the next day for ultrasound of my heart. Everything was normal, still finding it very hard to lose the weight though. I have had two chem pregs while taking this med and it never lowered my elevated LH level (31.5). I do not plan to take it I am currently on BCps and will do lupron/Gonal-F/IUI in a few weeks. I could not tolerate glucophage unfortunatly. The irony in all this is that two days before I stoped taking avandia I did have a spontanous period-a 40 day cycle. I did not ovulate though. If you decide to take this med make sure your dr checks you for swelling often. I was so stupid I just thought I was getting fat LOL of course I am, but it was really the swelling that was making me appear larger than I was. In doing my research I have read several cases about congestive heart failure due to the swelling avandia causes around the heart. Be careful, just wanted youi to know. Jennifer, 29
