Nearly diagnosed and scared!From: anon (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 7 Feb 2001 11:31:21 -0600 (CST)
Hi, we have been trying to concieve for nearly a year without success. I have irregular cycles and since charting them since TTC, i have found them to be sooooooooo haywire. eight weeks, six weeks, five and half weeks. Because possible ovulation is so difficult to pinpoint, it has been even harder to concieve. My cycles have never been every 28 days but usually every 5-6 weeks but since ttc they have been somewhat more all over the place. I had some blood tests taken that showed that my prolactin was raised and my Progesterone was low for the 7dpo test. A repeat test showed that my prolactin was normal but progesterone was still low. It had to be disputed whether my blood test was taken too early since i never had a period until 18 days after the second assummed 7dpo blood test or it could of been an anovulatory cycle. WHen i had my FSH and LH, the doctor said it was normal along with my thyroid function test. I had my first appointment with my SPecialist this week and after having a pelvic examination ultrasound, it was found that my ovaries had characteristics of PCOS. I was quite suprised only because my FSH and LH was normal although the thought had crossed my mind due to irregular cycles.I am waiting to have a repeat FSH and LH test when period arrives. But i have many questions to ask.sorry.......... 1) What concerns me now is the fact that does this mean that i will not be able to concieve? And how much does PCOS effect conception? 2) I am also worried about the FSH and LH levels. The first test samples were taken along with my 7dpo bloods and not in the first few days of the cycle. How much will this effect the results? 3)The Specialist said that Clomid can be used to stimulate ovulation and possibly this will be the first step to fertility treatment. What is the success rate of clomid with someone with PCOS? 4)I experience ovarian discomfort and twinges when i assume ovulation is taking place and it lasts for about five days. It starts with a 'pinching' sensation then i get a sharp pain another day then its just a dull ache and it subsides. About a few days before menses my ovarian discomfort comes back but quickly subsides when menses arrives and i don't get any more twinges until the next assumed nearing of ovulation. Does this mean i could be potentially ovulating or is it the cysts that will cause this discomfort? 5)What levels would the FSH and LH be with PCOS...simple terms will it be high or low? 6) I have taken OPK's and i don't get continous positives as i believe that the LH is consistantly high. However i do detect LH surges which last a few days then goes negative and then i might get another LH positive for a couple of days than negative for the rest of the cycle. should then, i expect to have long durations of high LH which could cause a false positive on the OPK with PCOS or does it depend on the severity? 7)I am not overwieght, do not have over exccessive body hair etc. I have noted my CM changes and have detected my fertile mucus, i have also noted breasts changes during the cycle, i.e, they get sore and tender when i think it is around ovulation but stop when menses arrives until midcycle again. i get LH surges on the OPK but it is normally a few days after the fertile CM. I have only started to chart my BBT. What is a typical BBT with someone with PCOS??.is the temps usually high or low? 8) What causes PCOS? I am sorry to ask so many questions but i am really frightened. This has really WORRIED ME into thinking that i will never concieve now because of this. PLEASE HELP!!!!
