Re: Cheer me up - HairlossFrom: Teresa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 31 Jan 2001 20:51:30 -0600 (CST)
Di, Well...I'm still pushing my Primary Dr. to address the insulin issue. Therefore, I am not taking anything to resolve the underlying pcos/insulin problem. However, 6 months ago I was loosing a LOT of hair. So much so, I actually scooped it out of the shower drain and countertops from ONE shower/shampooing/comb out and took it to my ob/gyn. I told him, the contents of the baggie was from THAT morning and that didn't include what washed down the drain. I was a total basket case (had been on my period for 17 days straight). He insisted I start bcp's (Ortho-Tricyclen) immediately. I was scared to death to start them...as I had heard hair loss horror stories related to the pill. The last thing I needed was to exacerbate my hair loss. My bloodwork had the telltale signs of a whacked out LH and FSH ratio. I also had very little progesterone. I am not trying to concieve, so I VERY reluctantly agreed to try. My Dr. said to give it three months. I noticed a big slow down of hair loss, after the second month of pills. Hope you find something that works for you.
