Re: Having doubts - can someone help?From: paula (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 30 Jan 2001 14:24:04 -0600 (CST)
no, glucose and insulin are not the same things. it is kinda like this...glucose is the "gasoline" of the body, it is your fuel. everything you eat or drink is converted into glucose because this is the only fuel our bodies can use. it is the most basic of all sugars. now, insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas. this hormone is a glucose carrier. as your body converts your food to glucose, it sends a signal to the pancreas to produce insulin, once the insulin is produced it goes through your blood stream and picks up the glucose, it takes it to the red blood cells all over your body. it is stored there as fat. if your doctor is not listening to you, you need to find another doctor. but before you do, you need to get the results of all tests you have had done. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH: REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOUR DOCTOR SAYS, ALWAYS CONFIRM THE RESULTS YOURSELF. the thing is, research on PCOS is cutting edge. there are alot of doctors who are not familiar with it. in this case you have to ensure YOU are totally familiar with it. there are many of us who have taken our health into our own hands. we simply go to doctors because they can prescribe the medication we know we need. i am not saying that this is the preferred method, of course we would all like to have wonderful well-informed docs, but this is not always possible, so there are times we have to take control. i have alot of information that may help you educate yourself. if you want me to send it to you, please email me and i will get it right out. hope this helps =) love, paula
