Re: rectocele ????From: Chris (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 28 Jan 2001 11:08:23 +1000
Dear Janet, The rectum and the vagina are sepearted by a alyer of muscle. If this muscle is weakened (for instance in childbirth), the rectum can bulge through the muscle into the vagina. It can be felt as a lump. There is still layers of skin seperating the rectum and vagina. Unless you have a prolapse of the rectum (where it kind of turns itself inside out and part of the rectum is coming out of your anus), you shouldn't be getting faeces when you wipe after urinating. Thje other thing that may cause a problem is a recto - vaginal fistula, which is a hole in between the rectum and vagina, where feaces could leak through to the vagina. I would suggest it would be wise to visit a doctor and get checked out to see exactly what is happening. As far as I know, the only way to treat this is surgery. Hope this helps, Emma
