Re: hormone levels, electrolysis, etc.From: Vanessa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 27 Jan 2001 15:12:12 -0600 (CST)
My lab work showed as being WNL, but when I got it to my RE, he said they were WNL to a doctor who didn't treat PCOS. In other words, some were at the high end of normal and others were at the low end, and he said that was enough to show there is a problem. Perhaps your ranges are just normally "normal", although that "normal" is "abnormal" to some extent? No problem on this end -- he RX me Met, Spiro, etc., and now I am a much better off camper. Electrolysis -- shop around. I do it, but I have gone to different ones, and each one is different. They don't all use the same technique (some use thermolysis, while others use -- ah, my train of thought is gone), and different techniques feel different. Also, some electrologists are more gentle than others, so shop around. Go for free consults. I will tell you that the upper lip area is very sensitive because of the nerve endings being concentrated there, so ask whoever you go see about some topical numbing preparations. (When I went to a gal who said there was no such thing, I used teething medicine for babies and it worked enough to cut down on the ouch. There is also prescription Emla -- I'm allergic to it -- and my electrologist has some other brand of topical anesthetic that she puts on me and it works like a charm.) Okay, after seeing the discussions about that hair removal stuff that is really ouchy, this couldn't be any worse than that, and if your electrologist knows what she is doing, it won't be. It has been a real lifesaver for me. I tried the epilight treatment for hair and it felt like a rubber band being snapped on me and was very expensive. It didn't work for me at all, so I vote for electrolysis. BTW, hair will come back until the root is dead, so it may take a few times. My electrologist said that I will probably always need some clean-up, but after a few months, she had me looking less like a warewolf and more like a real person (I have A LOT of DARK hair). Give it a try! vb
