Want to go off the birth control pill....severe PCOS. questionsFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 27 Jan 2001 14:42:35 -0600 (CST)
Im the woman remember who gained the immense amount of weight up from 200sat 6 feet tall- 600s now in 400s in a short time. So keep in mind my endocrine issues are pretty severe, I got PCOS while still thin and age 21. I went on the pill at age 25 even though I hadnt had a period in 4 years because I was in a steady relationship--now my husband and I knew I couldnt afford to get pregnant even if there was even a little iota of chance----I had the severe weight gain age 27-30, have lost weight last two years slowly, diagnosed with severe PCOS along with thyroid disease--also steroid induced Cushings is a part of the pic--from the past and possible autoimmune polyglandular disease because I show signs of impending adrenal failure--low cortisol now. (hyperadrenal on everything else) Ok so I know this pic may be kind of complicated. Ive been on birth control pills for 7 years and I want to get off them to see what effect it will have on my health and weight. They are also causing me some problems severe PMS and depression one week a month. I talked to my doctor and he has told me there is no way I will ever be fertile. He told me to inform my husband there would never be any children and if this would bother him, he was very concerned and compassionate. I told my doctor I warned my husband of my infertility even before the relationship was begun. Even if I lost all my weight and got down to the 200s or 180lbs, My PCOS is just too severe. So I dont think the pregnancy risk is there.... I told my doctor I wanted to go off the pill since Ive been on it so long and he says...I probably saved myself from unterine cancer because I was on it so long. I had the ultrasound and the lining was normal. He is against me going off of it. I will make up my mind with more info. I am deathly afraid of uterine cancer because a friend of mine with severe PCOS like me got it when she was 40. (my mother had severe endometriosis and had a hysterectomy at age 30 it was so bad) dont know if that plays into anything. My concerns about the pill is that I have been on it this long, I already probably have a huge amount of estrogen in my body, I wonder how it affects weight, maybe I would lose faster off of it, and the fact I have high blood pressure and get migraine headaches. The pill also only induces light periods in me. They are very regular but light. Ok please tell me what you think..I havent made up my mind on this yet. and I do want to know if there are any alternatives to the pill to shed uterine lining. Thank you.
