Re: on the subject of hair...From: Tracy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 25 Jan 2001 03:06:22 -0600 (CST)
After about 6 months on Spironolactone I started seeing new hair growth around my hairline. 2 years into Spiro therapy, my hair is thicker, healthier, and grows at a normal rate now. I am still seeing new growth, but not as much. If you get a weave, be sure that they teach you how to care for your natural hair, the weaves can weaken the existing hair if the underbraids are too tight or the weaves left in too long between tightening. There is something else called a "hair integration system" it is more expensive, but MUCH gentler on fragile hair. It is basically a net of hair strands you wear like a cap and pull your existing hair through the openings in the netting. It is not attatched to the scalp by attatching it to existing hair. I know a lady who had one, and she could brush right through it and it was fairly secure. I got an extension weave back in the '90's and it damaged my hair. The stylist made the cornrows across my head too tight and I had breakage. In extension weaves, they make horizontal tiny cornrow braids and stitch bands of weaving hair to them with a blunt needle. These "tracks" are layered into your existing hair and blend in quite well on layered hairstyles. It was great having long hair when I could not grow mine, but the damage was an issue. If your hair is fragile, I would investigate the integrated hair systems or hair integration systems.
