Re: Need info on 'brain fog' symptom (m)From: cathy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 24 Jan 2001 18:23:39 -0600 (CST)
Hi Isabella, I used to have that extreme fatigue and 'fog' too. I thought I must have underactive thyroid so I went to the doctor and it turned out my thyroid was fine but i have pcos. I also had a low body temperature of about 36 when a normal temp is 37 degrees. Anyway, I kept trying to find out why I was so tired and i read that eating the sweetener aspartame can make you ill. I had been drinking 2 or 3 litres a day of orange drink full of aspartame for at least 10 years! Well I stopped drinking the stuff and made sure I didn't eat or drink anything with sweeteners in and after 5 days the tiredness had gone! My temp was up to normal and no more brain fog! Hurray! This was on 16th oct 2000 that I stopped and the tiredness has completely gone and my temp has stayed normal. I also used to feel really ill and tired after a meal, but I don't now, so maybe the sweeteners affect insulin resistance somehow. Anyway, just an idea that you could cut out aspartame for a few weeks and see if you feel better. Take care, Cath
