Re: Questions about POCSFrom: Jenn (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 24 Jan 2001 17:56:47 -0600 (CST)
Hi there. I've recently been diagnosed with PCOS too. I think I can help answer a few of you questions. First off, the thickened uterus is caused from our body's inablity to shed the lining every 28 days. Over time, if the hormones don't cause a period, then the lining builds up. This is different from endometriosis. Endometriosis is having endometial (uterus lining) tissue outside of the uterus. At my third appointment my doctor refered me to an endocrinologist. They specialize in hormonal problems. At that appointment I expect to go on Glucophage. Glucophage is an anti-diabetic medication. As I understand it the doctors are unsure on what caused what. Either the insulin resistance caused the homonal changes (like the elavated testosterone) or the hormonal changes caused the insulin resistance. Anyways wish ever happened first the anti-diabetic medication helps the insulin work better with the sugar (glucose). My husband and I are also trying to have children... we have never thought of ourselve with out them. I think those of us with PCOS can be hopeful to conceive, so don't give up Kristina. Please email me if you have anymore questions. I enjoy talking to people that can understand all the things that we have to go through. Good Luck!!! JENN -- jennmike@prodigy.net
