Heidi, Ive undergone much testing for cushings I have the hump! and it hurts. Im the one who is very heavy and had that huge fast weight gain. I also have hyperadrenalism, they havent found any tumors yet...or high cortisol so here I sit with a severe PCOS diagnosis. I have a doctor you can contact who will do salivia cortisol tests with you through mail. I turned out negative. Also have your doctor do these tests:

24 hour urine cortisol @4 hour adrenal urine tests aldosterone, andrenalin etc etc Blood adrenal levels of everything! CT scan of adrenals--mine was inconclusive did not find tumor. MRI of pitutiary gland and adrenal glands---I havent been able to do these yet due to my huge weight! test for high androgens Test for ACTH Blood cortisol levels.

Usually you want to attempt for cortisol levels more than once because there is something called intermittant cushings.

I had low...and have been told I may have a unusual condition called polyglandular autoimunne disorder....my fahter also died of undiagnosed adrenal disease probably Addisons. So I have to be very careful.

THERE ARE MANY WOMEN WHO WERE TOLD THEY HAD SEVERE PCOS WHO ACTUALLY HAD CUSHINGS!

I was shocked my cortisol always came out low but I was on steroids two years of the weight gain so my case is complex and I know my doctor has sat down and done math problems on my chart to figure out the rations of evertying. Cushings people have high prolactin and DHEA but PCOS people can get these.

I cried when I was told it was PCOS instead of Cushings for a bout a MONTH. i wanted a cure. Please though look into this. I know if I start gaining weight again very fast...Ill be begging for more tests even. I have accepted things for now as severe PCOS.

Cushings can be hard to cure--surgery and such but it does have one advantage--it can be cured unlike PCOS.
