Re: About Lane BryantFrom: Shawna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 12 Jan 2001 12:33:04 -0800
Sorry this is so offtopic...ack! Anyway...My understanding of the history here is that the catalog and store used to be a lot more closely aligned- maybe 15 years ago or so..both catered more to the matronly type of "women's size" customer (not that there was much else out there at the time for larger sizes!) The store decided to break away and become more fashion-oriented, but the catalog, whose customer base was still more strongly matronly, stuck with its original formula. Their marketing department found that this customer base was older, and less fat-positive than the store's new target market, and found that their customers preferred the smaller models- usually size 10 or 12 (they're still not the sticks that you see in other places.) So, they've just stuck with it. Though I'd imagine that in another 5-10 years they may move out of that, as they expand their core customers. The catalog itself is a great place to get cheap basics, but it's still not very fashion-oriented, so until they change that, they're likely to still get a more conservative market. Ok..enough about this now :) -Shawna
