Re: 32 with pcos and can't get pregnantFrom: Laurie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 11 Jan 2001 06:44:01 -0600 (CST)
Ladies, I don't know if this will make you feel better or not, but I have PCOS (was diagnosed in 92 although I know I've had it since I was a teen). My first husband and I tried to get pregnant for about 7 years - did 9 cycles of clomid and 3 GIFT cycles. No pregnancy. Then he divorced me (best thing for me although I didn't know it at the time LOL). Started dating a guy shortly after my divorce was final and boom! got pregnant! Couldn't explain it, but I didn't question it. I have a beautiful little boy now and am remarried to a wonderful man (not my son's father). We have now been trying to get pregnant for about 9 months (done one cycle of Clomid) and the doctor is suggesting IVF. The doctor explained to me that although I responded EXTREMELY well to the clomid (hyperstimulated if you can believe it), IVF is a better option. Because I tend to form cysts when I ovulate, sometimes the egg never actually makes it out of the follicle and into the fallopian tube where ovulation happens. Since the eggs are removed from the follicle and put right with the treated sperm in IVF, this helps eliminate the problem of the eggs getting stuck in the follicle and dying before they can do the dance with the sperm. IVF still doesn't have the highest percentage of success, but for some women, it appears to be the ONLY option. And I know you've been told this a zillion times, relax. I'm not saying that same thing I hear a thousand times "relax and you'll get pregnant. You're trying too hard." I'm saying, I know it's hard, but try to take some time off now and then and take care of yourselves. And continue to visit this board to get ideas, talk to friends, and vent frustrations. Will be better in the long run for you to get some of this off your chests and relax a little. Good luck!
