I really don't know if a wedge resection would restore fertility. I was actually very young (20) when I had the resection and it wasn't to treat infertility. I didn't discover that I had PCOS until the symptoms appeared when the effects of the surgery started wearing off. I do know, however, that wedge resection was at one time the standard treatment for-I don't even know what they called it-Stein-Leventhal, cystic ovaries; my doctor (20 years ago) just told me it was "a negative reaction to my own hormones" (so are alot of other things!) and one of the benefits was fertility. I was treated for PCOS accidentally as a result of another problem, the huge ovarian cyst on the other ovary and now I'm looking into drug treatment, metformin, for the symptoms that are appearing now. I guess I'm a strange case because I was treated before I had noticed any symptoms except very irregular periods and some very long (30 day) periods, which were of course "normal" for me according to the doctors at the time. Directly following the surgery my periods became regular (as in every 28 days) and have been ever since and I haven't had any problem getting pregnant. The only trouble I've had has been the miscarriages over the past year and that seems to be happening because the effects of the wedge resection have worn off. The surgery worked for me and it will be at least a year before I find out if the drug treatment does. I go back to the doctor in Richmond tomorrow and will let you know what he says.

To answer your question: I didn't feel bad before the surgery, I'd been having periods, irregular, for about four or five years and other than the irregularity had no symptoms. During the fifteen years directly following the surgery I had very few symptoms, I started gaining weight and facial hair at about year ten and I just started noticing in the past five years that the hair on my head is thinning.
