Andrea...I have the same exact thing. My Dr told me that the reason I am having this is because the lining of my uterus does not all shed at once. "Normally" the entire lining of the uterus sheds at once, but mine sheds in parts causing me to bleed for a longer period of time. He also explained that the reason that it goes from light to heavy and back to light is because smaller amounts shed at times and larger amounts shed at times. But the reason is because the lining is not shedding all at once. At least that is why mine does that. My guess is that you are having the same but, since I am no Dr, I would hesitate to say that is your case due to the fact that there is the possibility it may be something else.
