Re: I had a lap done today ( a little long)From: Chris (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 21 Dec 2000 21:39:48 +1000
Dear Anon, Clarify with your doctor what he means by the term cyst. Even though we have what is termed polyCYSTic ovary disease, what most women with the syndrome have is actually an abundance of immature follicles inside the ovary - these can be hard to see sometimes on laparoscopy. Most women with PCOS won't have problems with ovarian cysts (there are unlucky ones though) because hormones in women with PCOS often don't allow the eggs to mature properly to form a cyst. The other thing is that it appears in some cases, maybe all, no idea, the metformin helps reduce the number of follicles in the ovaries - my ovaries are shrinking since being on the metformin! Good luck, Emma
