>1. When where you diagnosed? july 2000 >2. What are your symptoms? irregular periods, hair on chin, pms, severe mood swings when I hadn't eaten, >3. How long are you aware of having these symptoms? since I started my periods --19 years ago >4. What treatments are you on/have you tried? Metformin, fat acceptance >5. How do you feel about these symptoms? I always thought all women had these things going on. I didn't know people had regular periods or weren't emotionally kookie. I know it seems weird, but I thought I was normal. >6. How is you menstrual period? Long, short, painful etc? about 4-5 days, with spotting for about 5 days before it starts. Before I started taking met, it was very sporatic--once every two weeks for a while then nothing for three months, etc. Believe it or not, my irregularity seemed to follow the seasons. I ususally didn't have a period in the spring, even out in the summmer, then had heavy frequent periods in the fall and evened out in the winter again. >7. If your period is painful, what can you do to make it better? No pain. >Anything makes it worse? nope >8. When was your first period? When I was 11 >9. How do you feel when having your period? Physically and emotionally good. I love having my period. I feel connected to the earth. it' the time between trying to ovulate and starting my period that I have back pain and emotional troubles. >10. Are you overweight? If so, where’s your problem area, and when did >this become a problem? Yes. I'm pretty evenly distributed. I was a normal weight in high school and starting gaining when I was nineteen. I gained almost 100lbs in my 20's. I've lost about 10-15lbs on met without trying. >11. How do you generally feel about yourself? I like myself and feel MUCH better now that I'm on met. Not many mood swings, less anxiety, very good. I've also been working on fat acceptance and self esteem. >12. How would you describe your childhood? dysfunctional--my dad was crazy, literally >13. Would you say you were more of a tomboy, or a little “princess”? princess >14. Any history of abuse? verbal >15. How do you look at your own femininity? I love being a woman. I've always seen having a child as a completion of a cycle that connects you with the universe, so it's very hard for me to be infertile. >16. Any food cravings? If so, what are they and when did they start? Loved sugary and fatty carbs. Binged a lot, ever since I can remember, couldn't understand how other people could pass up food. Never purged, though. >17. Have you tried to become pregnant? If so, did you succeed? Yes, not yet--will try clomid next month >18. Have you had any miscarriages? No >19. What do you do to make it easier for yourself to live with PCOS? Metformin and knowing that I'm not a freak that all those things I thought I couldn't change because I was a loser actually stem from my PCOS. > >Thanks very much! > >Kind regards, >Tove Karlsen > >e-mail: anonymous@obgyn.net
