My questionaire got cut off, didnt notice this but I will answer the rest of the questions after I post these first ones again so there is no confusion./

1. When where you diagnosed? This spring 2000.

>2. What are your symptoms?

Severe obesity--very central obesity, brown spots all over my body, Hirituism-facial hair, thick other hair, hypoglycemia, high blood pressure, high insulin, balding receding hair line, fatigue, depression, anxiety, increased infections, no periods since I was 21--I havent ovulated since then or had a period, hyperadrenalism, shakiness, hypothyroidism. Probable polyglandular autoimmune syndrome. I was so severe adrenal tumors were suspected but I havent been able to get an MRI to totally outrule but this is my diagnosis for now since my cortisol is low. Im 32.

>3. How long are you aware of having these symptoms?

I had a severe weight gain begin in 1995. during 1995-1997, my body weight tripled. I gained 350lbsplus. I peaked at 630lbs. However I had earlier symptons while still thin, I had my periods disappear forever at age 21 and the brown spots on my skin the ancanthosis nigrosis...I may have the spelling off was quite severe even when I was just a teen. There was no explanation for it. My PCOS diagnosis explained a lot. My hypothyroidism was SEVERE during my weight gain...I lost most of my hair, had severe skin ulcers, dry skin, digestive troubles, fatigue to the extreme.

>4. What treatments are you on/have you tried?

I cant take Met for other health problems. I have been on Aldactone and this has helped my weight and some of the symptons. I also take birth control for theraeputic reasons.

>5. How do you feel about these symptoms?

The best I can. Ive made many changes to my life. I make sure I try to have as stress free a life as possible. I am losing weight have lost over 160 down from the peak but have a ways to go still of course. I have to eat a very strict diet to control the worse of the hypoglycemia. The Aldactone helped me alot and I was happy for it. Thyroid pills too are A LIFESAVER!

>6. How is you menstrual period?

On my own I simply dont have them and stopped when I weighed 210 at 6 feet tall. On birth control they are very light....but come at the same time. I do get cramps and severe PMS ironically. I dont understand this!

>7. If your period is painful, what can you do to make it better?

Sleep and walking around. Exercise seems to help my cramps it always has.

>Anything makes it worse?

Stress and cold weather.

>8. When was your first period?

age 13 and they were very painful.

>9. How do you feel when having your period?

Relieved. the week before I suffer from depression. I think its from the birth control pills. But earlier as a teen I was in a lot of pain.

>>10.Are you overweight? If so, where’s your problem area, and when did
> this become a problem?

I suffer a severe weight problem and weigh now around 470. I was 630lbs in during 1997-1998. Started to loose late 98 when thyroid got to normal. I have chosen no starvation diets and have chosen to lose slowly on a healthy lifestyle. I have a very deranged metabolism.

>11.How do you generally feel about yourself?

This seems to fluctuate. I have pride in my intelligence and artistic sensibilities. I feel beautiful around my husband and friends but sometimes I do feel badly about how I fit into society.

>12.How would you describe your childhood?

Stable, My parents were perfectionistic which caused some problems. I am building a good relationship with my mother now...but growing up my parents and I couldnt relate personality wise. I was artistic and sensitive and they were practical, and stoic which led to much strife. My siblings were my best friends and only a year apart from me.

>13.Would you say you were more of a tomboy, or a little “princess”?

Tomboy.

>14.Any history of abuse?

Just criticism. My parents criticized everyone! but really no abuse otherwise.

>15.How do you look at your own femininity?

Outside of my marriage where I feel all girl, I think I should have been a man at times. I am more masculine in some traits that I have. I hate makeup and fashion. But I like art and I cry easily. So Im like in the middle of man and woman. I feel androgynous more than anything else most of the time.

>16.Any food cravings? If so, what are they and when did they start?

I crave cheese and meat and pasta. I NEVER crave sugar and can sit in front of a table like yesterday at a Christmas party and not even touch a piece.

I also can crave salt majorly even though it is very bad for me in terms of edema.

These started when I was 21 and periods disappeared. >

>17.Have you tried to become pregnant? If so, did you succeed?

I have never tried. I even used birthcontrol while knowing I was most likely infertile because of the poor state of my health. I am too heavy to even consider it.

>18.Have you had any miscarriages?

No

>19.What do you do to make it easier for yourself to live with PCOS?

I learn what I can to control it. I eat a very weird diet, this has helped...it took me months to control terrible panic attacks and such but I did get to a point where I got all of this under control and I was happy about that. Hormone pills have improved my life considerably. I also make sure that I am not stressed...because Ive learned stress makes my PCOS worse. During my gain I was under severe stress and I know this connection does have medical merit. stress makes insulin resistance worse. I also have friends that i met online with severe PCOS like me who have helped and are invaluable. >
