Hi everyone. Just popped in and read a few posts. I just want to let you all know that there are other medications out there for those suffering with metformin. I have been taking actos 30mg/day (that's what I started with) for just over a month. In the first 20 days I lost 8 pounds, my 'numbers' dropped from 362-179 and 5.9-4.3 and I feel GREAT. Not sick, no headaches, could get out of bed in the morning without an argument for hubby. He always said he had to go sharpen up his stick to poke the bear in the morning. I was not a happy girl !! I got a period which is strange for me. I hadn't had one in a year. Mind you this period was heavy but normal as far as 'consistancy' and colour goes, but it knocked me on my ass!! I had bad, bad cramps and back ache and damn near bled through everything I own, and it lasted for 6 days. For those who don't know, I drive transport truck, so it sure wasn't easy, driving while sitting on old towels and fun stuff like that. But you know what? Who cares! I got a period and am losing weight and my numbers are down and like I said, I feel so so so good. Anyone having trouble with met. ask your doctor about Actos. Oohh...I think it's too early to know for sure, but it sure seems my 'whiskers' are disapearing and my brush is not as full anymore. May be my imagination, but....may not be. The only thing about Actos that is not great is a bad taste in the mouth, like baby ambasol (sp) that stuff for tooth aches, and my hair feels very brittle and dry. But, hey I can get some different conditioner. I'm sorry this is long, but thought you all had the right to know what's up with this new medication. Nice to see the new faces and the 'old' ones too.
