Re: Anyone lost enough weight and had their symptoms reverse (excess hairFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 14 Dec 2000 12:05:10 -0500
Yes, weight is a major factor in PCOS for many of us. There are many women who experienced a rapid weight gain at the onset of other PCOS symptoms. IR is also a major contribution. In my case, about 3 years ago I went on a low fat, low calorie diet with my husband who lost 70 lbs(and kept it off) while I gained 40. I exercised and did not "cheat." I know now that PCOS and IR are my challenges NOT my willpower. I am not a weak person, I have an illness. Refined Carbohydrates are bad for me and any carbs I eat the rest of my life will have to be limited. The weight causes a build in hormones which causes an increase in weight. Yes, accessibility to more processed, quick carb laden foods is not helpful to an IR PCOSer, BUT it is not their stress or self control that is to blame for PCOS weight problems. You are very, very lucky that you do not have this symptom of PCOS. You also should be very vigilant about monitoring your PCOS, diet and treatment because the weight gain can spring on you at any time, as some of the ladies on this board will tell you.
