Thank you all for your replies, I was most grateful for them all. Perhaps I was not being very clear about the present symptoms currently felt. (I must be in the feeling yucky stage...lol) I was under the assumption PCOS was only a symptom of an endocrine disorder and for convenience I shall continue to us it. The main question was how long the side effects of Metformin, eg nausea, diarreahea etc...last. I had my hysterectomy when I was 29, and being in England the notion of PCOS appears to be a fairly new concept, with not many ordinary people knowing about it. And as for insulin resistance!!...I am only the second patient my endocrinologist has prescribed Metformin for an non diabetic (or is it diabetic?) disorder. In fact I suggested it to him myself, because I had read about it on the internet, and he hummed and haaed a little and thought we might give it a go. So very much the guinea pig. I must say there is much food for thought here...do I have diabetes, I was told I had not. As an RN I understand the principles of diabetes and insulin and Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. If I am insulin resistant, surely that would make me diabetic? But my glucose levels were normal my other bloods were normal, except for my male/female hormones. Oh gosh this is long enough...just have more questions than answers now.

thank you again
