metformin and pcosFrom: alison (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 10 Dec 2000 13:18:43 -0600 (CST)
Ten years ago I was diagnosed with PCOS, at this time my doctor was unclear how this was caused, anyway I suffered with it for a further three years. Finally my gynaecologist performed a total hysterectomy and removal of both ovaries. During the ten years of PCOS I have suffered from virtually all the symptoms of this syndrome, especially weight gain and hirsuitism. I have finally been seen by an endocrinolgist who has prescribed Metformin 850mg twice daily. I have only in the last few months heard about possible insulin resistance, and my doctor is unable to give me the information I wasnt. Anyway the questions I have are. How long does the symtoms last? I am feeling pretty terrible at the moment. Has anyone else tried Metformin after hysterectomy and did it work for them? Thank you
