Slow-Release Glucophage/Metformin -- a new kind!!From: Mary (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 8 Dec 2000 12:08:33 -0600 (CST)
Hi all, I just went to my Endo this a.m. to get a scrip. for glucophage/metformin. (Before this I was lowcarbing but the level of lowcarbing i need to do to keep my weight down was just too low to live on indef.) Anyway, I asked all about gluc. and he said there is a new one now that is slow release so you only have to take it ONCE a day in a.m. He siad it's possible that it would also be easier/faster to build up and adjust to it b/c you dont have as many side effects (ostensibly) if you are only taking it once a day. (And also,...maybe b/c since it's slow release it doenst 'hit you' as hard? (dunno)) But he was speculating about that.. I told him, tho, I'm leary of trying drugs that are 'new' so i asked is there any diff. betw this and reg. glucophage and he went into something about how the triglycerides are different. I'm assuming that means they are higher, tho I dont think by much. However, when he said it's not known why they are higher, i just a little nervous with trying the new kind and decided to go with regular old standard glucophage. But I wanted you all to know that this exists so maybe if you are on it and want to switch or just starting out and want to see if this is easier, ask your Dr. about it. good luck everybody! :)
