Re: actos instead of metforminFrom: Diana (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 1 Dec 2000 13:19:49 -0600 (CST)
Elle - I finally got an informed response yesterday on this forum but also heard from my doctor's office on Wednesday. I can't remember the name(it may start with an R), but there was a medicine that doctors had been using and having wonderful results with for PCOS patients but had to discontinue because of harmful effects on the liver. Actos is considered a replacement for this drug - I am assuming they expect similar good results without the harmful liver side effects. There are studies and records being kept on its effectiveness but nothing definitive yet as it is relatively new. I started it on Wednesday so I haven't noticed any stomach side effects or others yet but the pamphlet that comes with it indicates the only common side effect is a sore throat.
