Re: Is anyone worried about passing this on to baby? ---if I was fertile I would choose NOT to have kids heres WHY? Plan to adopt. From: ALicia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Nov 2000 17:30:26 -0600 (CST)
I think for some people who have very severe PCOS that has led to disability like in my case, that having children would maybe not be fair to that child. I know that since my health has been so poor and many of the problems are genetic....my FATHER DIED OF AN AUTOIMMUNE disorder---UNDIAGNOSED ADDISONS, they found out too late. Thyroid disease, Asthma, Severe PCOS, Syndrome X, heart troubles high blood pressure. Every person does indeed have to look at their own situation. Even if I was fertile I dont think I would choose to have children of my own but would adopt. Most people with moderate to mild PCOS it should be no problem but you do need to consider your childs quality of life. I was disabled by age 27---even earlier for the severe asthma while still thin and I wouldnt wish this on anyone. I think I would perhaps be irresponsible to have a child go through this!! My sister is worried that her daughter may end up facing some of our family health problems! Ive told her what to watch out for as far as PCOS goes. My sister is thin and healthy but had a genetic heart problem when she was 3 make itself known...this runs in our family. . I am sure my brother and Dad had Syndrome X. We have 300 and 400lb people as a normal course. The thin people in the family weigh in the 200s!:)~ heart troubles and diabetes and bad health do seem to run in the family! Me and my sister have severe allergies and asthma. She and I both have almost died of it several times. We have Huntingtons Chorea even but since our mother didnt get it we are almost sure the line was broken! My husband has schizophrenia and cancer in his family. For some of us to have kids, it is somehow a foolhardy decision. My religion does tell me to leave it up to God that is sometimes a tempatation but in a way I think God gave me his decision because Im infertile after all! I will stay infertile even if my weight etc and all get to normal the doctors have told me.
