Taking Met while pregnant?From: Theresa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Nov 2000 12:10:21 -0600 (CST)
Hi everyone! I went this morning for my blood work. And I cornered the nurse, and told her I had a few questions for either her, or my doctor. My first concern was should I still be taking Met now that I'm pregnant. She wrote down all my questions, and called my doctor (at 7:30 this morning!!). Basically, he said that considering there are really no indications that Met is harmful to the fetus, (but there aren't any that say it is) and most studies have shown that it decreases the risk of miscarriage, that it was my decision whether or not to continue taking it. I've decided to keep taking it, because in my opinion, taking it is probably safer to my baby than going off of it, and having my insulin shoot up again, and possibly ending up with diabetes. I also emailed Dr. Glueck out of Cincinnati, the "leader" in "taking Met while pregnant" research, and explained my dilemma. He emailed back this morning, with a VERY LENGTHY questionaire to take to my doctors, and "by all means, keep taking the met." I think I'm doing the right thing...do any of you have any thoughts or opinions??? Thanks in advance!!! Love you all!!!!
