actos instead of metformin

Hello all - I have been taking metformin since August and had built up to 1500mg/day but was having constipation problems. I spoke to my doctor who suggested I back down to 1000mg to see if that helped. It didn't and I still was having to take a laxative every 11th day. I called again yesterday and he has switched me to 30mg of Actos.

I'm concerned about losing the benefits of Metformin - does anyone know much about the differences as it relates to facial hair and pregnancy benefits?

Thanks to anyone who responds!
