Re: Pregnant with PCOSFrom: Chris (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 22 Nov 2000 13:25:21 +1000
Congratulations!! I'll try to answer your questions. 1. There is only a slim chance that the pill may have done anything to your baby - even more slim in someone with PCOS as it seems to regulate the hormones in mum's body. 2. This sounds awful, but a growing foetus ios l;ike a parasite - it will take evrything it needs from your body, so the weight should have no effect at all on bubby. 3. In pregnancy itr is important to make sure you have enough nutrition in your diet to supply the needs of both you and your growing baby. If this means you are still losing weight, that is OK, as long as you ensure that your intake is adequate. 4. I don't agree with the idea that women with PCOS have a smaller pelvis. Very few women have a pelvis truly too small to deliver their baby vaginally. Progesterone deficiency can be a problem in the first trimester, often causing miscarriage, but you obviously don't have a problem there!! Also because the metabolism of insulin changes during pregnancy you are at higher risk of developing problems such as gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia. However these conditions are usually routinely screened for in every pregnant woman (at least here in Australia they are) and when picked up early they can be monitored and treated effectively. 5. I've heard from women on the board that their PCOS can get worse following pregancny and brestfeeding, but I have no idea myself, never having been pregnant. 6. It is thought that PCOS is inherited to some degree. The best weapon for fighting this is to have knowledge. PCOS makes life hard,k but is easier to treat when picked up ealry. The best thing you can do if your bub is a girl is keep an eye out for symptoms as she approaches puberty, so any possible problems can be treated ASAP. Hope this helped a little!! Love Emma
