Hello -
No - I have NOT had tests to see for certain if this is PCOS ... but
just today, I saw a doctor who I'm CERTAIN got the picture how
unbelievably concerned I am, and I think THAT combined with the new
pains I've been having in my abdominal region spurred the referrals for
an OB/GYN AND an endocrinologist. The reasons for the initial diagnosis
seemed to based on the irregular menses, hirsuitism, hair loss and acne
... combined with an LH : FSH ratio of nearly 3:1 (19 : 6.83) and an
elevated DHEA-S. BUT, in ALL of my reading and researching, one of the
things that has frightened me so much is that there seem to be other
disorders with VERY comparable symptoms ... things such as adrenal
tumors or pituitary malfunctions. I, unfortunately, have no answers as
of yet to the questions of why these other things haven't been brought
up --- and perhaps some of the blood work they've done already has ruled
these things out ... but no one has told me that they've even been
considered so it DEFINATELY still weighs pretty heavily on me. I feel a
*little* relief just knowing that I'll AT LEAST be seeing a specialist
about these problems ... perhaps its false hope, but I am optimistic.
I'll DEFINATELY keep everyone informed as I roll through this process.
They have planned a pelvic ultrasound and I think a trans-vaginal is not
out of the question (the way I understand it, the OB/GYN orders that to
be done) ... if you or anyone else has any recommendations on tests
that could be done to help better determine whether this IS or is NOT
PCOS, the advice would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks beyond words for
the support ....
