To Kris Re: Met & Aldactione togetherFrom: Jo-Nita (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 16 Nov 2000 08:31:27 -0600 (CST)
Hi Kris, My endo put me on Aldactone this week and He will have me start Met soon, also. I wanted to pass olong the advice he gave me. He believes in starting low and increasing your dose of Aldactone slowly. He started me out with 25mg. once a day for 1 week, then 50mg. once a day for the second week, then 75mg.(2- 25mg in a.m. & 1-25mg. p.m.) fot the 3rd week, then 100mg. ( 2-25's a.m. & 2-25's p.m.) for the 4th week on. He also suggested that I take the p.m. dose before 6:00, since aldactone also acts as a diuretic and he didn't want me to pee all night!! My fasting insulin was 34, and so he also wants me to start on Met. But not all at once, so since I'm really faithful about my diet (low-carb, No sugar, & not much art. sweetner either) he will wait just a while before I begin Met. He feels low-carbing, & aldactone, & Met are a little tough to throw at your liver all at once. My concern for you is that you are starting out on such a high dose of Aldactone. You might question your Dr. about a more gradual start. Sometimes there are gastric side effects that could be avoided by a slower start to the drug therapy.(e.i. nausea, diahrria, upset stomach, etc.) Keep us informed on how you do. You are welcome to e-mail me privately if I can be of help. Good Luck.
-- Take Care, Jo-NIta
