A new kind of heartburn? HELP!From: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 6 Nov 2000 21:10:17 -0600 (CST)
Ok, I don't know if this is a new kind of heartburn or what...but it scares the hell out of me at night. I have had heartburn since I was 18 (I am now 24) and now use Gaviscon because the Tagamet stopped working for me. On bad days, I can drink a glass of water and get heartburn...but luckily it hasn't been bad lately. I have brought this matter up with my PCP (he is an excellent OB/GYN), but he doesn't really address the issue as he is working with me and my hormones to get me pregers. Anyways, about 5-6 times now I have woken up in the middle of the night choking on my stomach acid, the latesest was this morning at 3am. It happens without warning and I end up inhaling my stomach acid into my lungs. I cough harshly for about a minute like a person who just was saved from drowning by CPR. Then I am terrified to go back to sleep for fear that it will happen again and end up sleeping sitting up until it is time to go to work. It is painfull to breathe after this happens and every breath I take BURNS! Has this ever happened to anyone else? Or am I the only out there? Please, any responses with be greatly appreciated. Thank you and God Bless. Kristy
