Re: Pain with PCOS?From: Shelly (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 31 Oct 2000 17:36:33 -0600 (CST)
During my one visit to an Endo I was told pain is not a symptom. Yeah, sure. It is my hypothisis that this ovary pain is caused by ruptuing and imbedded un-ruptured cysts. The only thing I've found to treat the pain is Neuronton. It's an old drug that was not invented to treat pain but this was found to be one of it's benificial side effects. Then comes suppression of the cysts, which is treating a symptom, not the actual problem. (But treating the symptom of pain is a GOOD thing!)Progestin only BC pills can work as can natural progesterone cream since they both supress ovulation, the basis of cyst formation. However both can cause yeast infections and since a lot of us PCOSers have yeasties ya gotta be careful. I've read that the precurser to natural progeterone is found in Mexican yam (pills found at the helthfood store). I've also read that the human body can not convert this precursor to progesterone but I think they're wrong. Since taking Mexican Yam pills on a regular basis my pain has been reduced. Now I have to get the IR under control through low carbing and suppliments to attack the problem, not just the symptoms. good luck
