I'm getting the GTT! (long, input requested)

Ok, first, I want to thank everyone. I've been around here a few months and have gained so much great info. It is through all of you that I have learned of the possibility of insulin resistance, which I suspect I may have. The only treatment ever offered to me is the birth control pill which has been ok. However, I can't ignore the symptoms of IR that I've been experiencing. I've spent the past month or so researching to figure out what to aim for with my doctors. I'm still trying to get the big picture but my understanding is that the IR may cause the hormonal disorder that results in PCOS. The pill seems to be keeping the hormones under control but I'm not interested in taking it forever and if the insulin is truly a problem, I'd like to address that, assuming that it can help get the hormones back in check or at least make me feel better.

After much deliberation, I called my primary care doctor today. I've never even met the man and had no idea what to expect. He was very open to my suggestions. He had no knowledge of the IR connection and PCOS (big surprise) but was very willing to oblige me, it didn't take any of the convincing I suspected. I'm going in Wednesday for the 5 hour test - ugh! Now, I've never had any tests performed on me. I was diagnosed at around 17 because I have all the symptoms and my mother has it and all 5 or so of my obgyns have confirmed this though I've never had my hormone levels tested. This is where I'm asking for your help. First, what else should I discuss with him? I suppose my testosterone levels should be tested. Also, I'm planning to bring in as much info as I can print out, particularly about IR. I'm searching for stuff to bring but if anyone can recommend any really comprehensive articles, I'd be thankful. Oh, and any feel free to point out any glaring errors in my understanding of all of this, I'm still working on it and realize that many of you have a much better grasp.

Thanks, Jody
