Re: How many of us HONESTLY exercise?(LONG reply)From: Barbara (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 23 Oct 2000 15:46:58 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Angel, I HONESTLY do, and I have lost 22 pounds in 5 months. I walk, do step aerobics and low impact aerobics with weights- The Firm video. My goal is to workout or 'get excercise' 6 days a week, but never less than 3. I have found that to lose weight working out 3-4 times a week works for me, to maintain I need at least 1-2 with walking in between. When I walk I go for at least 30 minutes at a good pace, and I do hills, I just happen to be lucky-I live on a nice steep hill, :) The benefits of excercise are many for me, obviously the weightloss, but also using the weights has reshaped my body quite a bit and it all helps with my metabolism and how I feel overall. My best motivational tips would be 1. keep a journal-I keep one and I record my weight, measurements, workouts etc. seeing my progress on paper has really helped me 2. start out slowly-do what you can do and stick to. For myself, I made a goal of 10 minutes a day EVERY day, then kept adding more minutes as I felt better. I figured 70 minutes per week was better than 0, and how could I say "I don't have time" or "I don't feel like it"- it is only 10 minutes after all, and I usually would go longer even in the beginning, because once i got started, why not? And one final thought, in one of my tapes the instructor says "Remember how you good you feel when you are finished with your workout-that feeling will keep you motivated", for me this has been very true. Good Luck Angel!
