Alicia: Have you thought about "interviewing" endocrinologists in your area to determine which ones would be open to metformin or other meds that would attack the problem at its root (insulin resistance)? Sometimes it just takes a few phone calls and asking the doctor's nurse if the dr. prescribes met. I just did that, and out of 6 referrals to endo's, I found one who does. See Joan's reply to my message "Does metformin cause birth defects" she was very helpful about this issue, as well as Susie Q's reply. Good luck, and keep us posted!
