A little unsolicitated adviceFrom: Smedley (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 5 Oct 2000 12:04:33 -0500 (CDT)
I just thought I would toss in this little tidbit of advice. Get copies of those test results ladies!! I have found in the past couple of years that having copies of your test results helps ALOT! For example: Not too long ago i took some blood tests, ya know the standard run. The doctor calls back and leaves me a message that everything is normal, which I could not believe! So I called and asked they be faxed to me. Come to find out I was "normal" according to the lab I went to, and each lab has differeneces of opinions on normal by the way. But my insulin was 19, which is VERY high and only one point below the abnormal range of 20 and up. My cholesterol was high, only a couple of points below the abnormal range, my testorterone was the same, my LH and FSH hormone levels were within normal range BUT the ratio was 4 to 1, they should be 1 to 1!!! Of course the lab does not measure ratios!! Because I got the results, checked information on the net, then called the doctor back with questions he agreed that all my levels were a bit high and that I would definetely benifit from a trial of met. Although he never doubted I had PCOS, and he is a very good doctor, the laboratory normal results were deceiving to us both. You absolutely have to take it into your own hands!! NEVER be afraid to peel away all the layers to get what you want! You deserve it, remember that. And in the future you will want those old charts for comparison.
