Finding an endocrinologist.

Hi All:

I'm new to the group, but not new to PCOS. Since I was in my late teens I've been battling with my weight and unsightly hair (I tweeze my chin, neck and upper lip every morning!!!). It is only over the past 5 years or so that the symtoms have been getting worse.

After my DH and I got married we decided that we wanted to have children right away... and soon after we got married we discovered that we were expecting (in March of 1995). Well, when I was 12 weeks pg. I miscarried. We were devestated, but we dealt with everything and decided to let it happen again when it happened. Finally in 1998 we decided it was time to seek a fertility specialist. He discovered that I had PCOS after conducting a series of tests. After knowing what I know now, I'm surprised I didn't figure it out on my own before then. I became pg. after going on the highest dose possible of clomid. Then the doctor had me take progesterone suppositories during the first trimester. I had a beautiful healthy baby boy in Feb. of 1999. I decided to try to get in better health before we have another child. I've been trying like heck to lost weight by low carbing and excercising, but I've only lost like 20 lbs and CAN'T seem to lose any more no matter what I do. It is so unfair. I feel better in terms of energy, etc., but I really want to lose the weight.

I think it is time to see an endocrinologist. My question is, how will I know where to find the right one. I live in Northern, VA, so if anyone could give me an idea about where to look, I'd greatly appreciate it. I feel weird just picking someone out of a book. My OB/Gyn didn't tell me about all of the serious possible side effects of PCOS. I've discovered all of this on my own. His goal I guess was to help me get pg. My goal now is to be healthy. I do want to have another child, but I think I want to try to space them a few years apart. So I figure, I have a year or so to get my health/weight under control and then hopefully with some work I can maintain everything.

Thank You,

Linda
