A cyst is a fluid filled bubble (on your ovary in this case ). It is where the egg emerges from when you ovulate. Inside your ovary there are follicles, which are immature cysts that are like the egg's "nest". In normal people the follicles develop and mature into cysts. In people with PCOS the follicles don't mature and often give a classic "string of pearls" appearance on ultrasound. Love Emma
