3000 mgs met and low carb success in the long termFrom: Lisa (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 25 Sep 2000 18:48:38 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Paula,. yes, this woman I met takes 3000 mgs per day of Met and seems ok. She said she worked her way up to it and now she has only some diarhea problems. I take 2000 mgs but would like to get to 2500 if I could take the nausea, shakes and the other. As for Low carb success, I kind of do a home made version. I eat very low carbs during the day but also I am concious of the fat levels as well. then, in the evening I eat a reasonable and regular meal (not small and basically whatever I feel like), including a small desert or fruit if I feel like it. I allow myself to snack on things like low fat cheese or cucumber or whatever in the evening. Also, during the day if I am on the road for work, I often just pick up a smal coleslaw and a few pieces of fried chicken (remove the skin - ugh). I try to stay low cal and low carb during the day. I know this is probably not the smartest way to do it, but psychologically, it works for me. I have that lovely supper to look forward to (andI also love cooking) and I can get through the day on that thought. I have never been a big breakfast person and lunch as always been pretty unexciting. I did this, combined with Met and also with the odd cheat day and lost about 30lbs. I then got pregnant (through clomid) and then afterwards was exactly where I was after the 30lbs weight loss. I was needless to say, thrilled. However, about 2 months after I stopped nursing and before I started Met again and also before I began back on my diet, I gained 12 pounds in two weeks with no apparent reason. Recently, I started back on the above regime and am also trying to walk more for exercise. I started this two weeks ago and I have lost about 7 pounds again. so this means i have another 5 0r 6 pounds to go before I am back to where i was when I lost the weight. I think that this diet works for me individually because it doesn't really feel like a diet. If I try to "diet" I literally go crazy. Very embarrassing, binging and stuffing, etc. I just try to be sensible. boy, it really works for me. I don't think in the case of PCO's this is considered a fad diet as it is rooted in science. I think if you just want to lose weight because you are normal and just ate too much, maybe it would be a fad. If you go crazy and eat no carbs, it would also be problem., You just have to do what works for you. good luck to all,
-- Lisa
