PCOS throughout history

As I read through the emails on this list (I've been a lurker for about three months), I'm wondering if PCOS has always affected so many women.

I guess what I'm wondering is if PCOS has always been so prevalent or maybe it's something to do with modern society that makes us all have it. Maybe processed food?

I don't have any answers, I'm just wondering and thought some of you might have some interesting theories. ;-)
