You know, it cracks me up that so many assume young people have no clue or money. My husband and I were married at 20 & 21, which many considered young. I was 22 when my son was born. We never had to live with anyone because we couldn't afford rent, we could pay all of our bills including car payments on 2 brand new cars and even take vacations. We didn't have earth shattering jobs but we were able to make around $45-55k. It wasn't a fortune but we were able to live just fine on it. I was able to quit my job when my son was born and stay home with him. By the time my son was 2 my husbands income had doubled because he's great at what he does and works hard. At that time we were 24 & 25. These days we have a fairly signficant income and really are lucky to not have to worry about money. You know what... we are able to give my son (who is now 8) anything he wants BUT we've always done that, it didn't matter what income level we were at. He has always come first and has always had what he wants / needs. We are now 30 & 32 (well I'll be 31 soon) and I don't regret anything. Do I know more now? Sure but that's always going to be the case, you learn lessons your whole life. I don't wish I had done anything differently at all. I have had so many miscarriages and such since that if I would have waited to have a child I wouldn't be able to have one. Only you can make a decision for yourself. You have to know whether you can manage or are responsible enough, others can't tell you that. Many teenagers / young people make mistakes but there are many who are responsible and able to make intelligent decisions and follow through. We are not God and have no right to judge others. I pay just as much in taxes as the next guy, if not more ($40k already and it's not even the end of the year :( ). Am I happy about it? Well I could find something else to spend it on for sure : ), however that's just life. If you don't like where/how your tax dollars are being spent get involved. Vote. Work to get things changed. Offer helpful suggestions / ways to improve or change things in your community. Solutions help, complaining doesn't.
