Carrin - get a very good attorney to handle the paperwork.

I hate to sound negative, but I am an adopted child, and have found both birth parents, and have done extensive research on this subject. The birth parents have 6 months, typically, to take the child back. For whatever reason. It happens probably daily, so regardless of how well you know the couple, it is still a possibility.

Also, decide what type of adoption - fully open, where there's visitation, or just limited.
