Obviously everyone responds differently, so I would advise talking with your doctor. My doctor specifically prescribed Metformin AND Adkins, which is very successful for me (down 48 pounds). I started the low-carb 3 weeks prior to taking the meds, so I didn't experience much more than loose bowels for a few days and extreme tiredness for about a week. I really think that it takes your body about a week to get used to the Metformin. And you do feel really crummy the first week on low-carb too (headaches and tired, cranky), I just thought of it as a way to get all the "toxins" (carbs) out of my system. I've been following this for almost 9 months now and have never felt better, had more energy in my entire life. And I'm ovulating and my periods are on a 28 day schedule for the first time in my life!

Low-carb is not a temporary fix, it is a total life change -- if you realize that those of us with PCOS are unable to handle carbs properly then you must understand that this is a permanent solution. The alternative of becoming a Type II diabetic was not an option for me, which is where I was heading on a low-fat, high carb diet.

Sorry to be so long winded...
