My Metformin UpdateFrom: Randi2 (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 18 Aug 2000 14:30:02 -0500 (CDT)
I am so thankful to have found this site. I have a strong feeling that next year this time I'll be saying that you all saved my life ... or at least the quality of my life. Today I've been on the Metformin for 2 full weeks. This morning I upped to my final dosage to 2,000mg. Bad me- I sort of skipped over the 500mg dosage after only a day despite the intense nausea and "other" problems because I was in a rush. I certainly wouldn't advice it, but I can be such a doofus that way. I just wanted to share three early changes I've noted since I've been on the medicine: 1) My hair, which is normally extremely oily ( I couldn't dream of going out in the morning without showering as some folks occassionally do), has changed! It's not nearly as oily. It feels and looks almost dry all day and it's the same way in the morning when I wake. 2) I got my period after 4 full days on the medication. I just had a period 30 days prior to that and, in my life, I've never had a period two months in a row! It's been a very mild period... but at 11 days, I'm still going strong?! 3) When I tested my fasting blood sugar level with my Dad's accucheck machine this morning, it registerd 96. The doctor's results from only a few weeks ago were 113. And when I took my fasting levels on my own back in May for a solid week, they ranged from 123-130. So far so good! Now I just have to batten down the hatches for the next wave of illness that's sure to follow today's final dosage increase. Mercifully, I seem to get accustom to the increase after 3 or 4 days. Best wishes to all of you.
