Has this happened to anyone >else? >> We are not sure what is wrong with my friend, she started having the horrendous gastric distress within the first few days of starting Metformin and she could not live with the constant painful diarrhea and cramping and went off it. She is like 4 months OFF metformin and still having bad gastric complications. They have tested her gallbladder and it is normal, the gastroenterologist is stumped and they are ordering further tests to try and track down the cause. Even the smallest amount of food doubles her over in pain and sends her running to the bathroom within a half hour. She does not see how it could be but believes it has something to do with the metformin. That stuff can be poison, it landed me in the ER twice to get IV fluids from the horrendous diarrhea and vomiting it caused.
